This is to let you know that

the forum may run slowly or be unavailable on the morning of Thur 15 Apr

Hopefully not many people will be using it during a weekday morning.

During this time the forum will be synchronised with the new BVS membership system. This involves automatically creating forum users for current BVS members.
The site will be left active during this time and if all goes well you shouldn't notice anything.

I suggest that you don't post anything during this period until notified here, as it maybe lost if we have to re-instate the database backup.

All precautions will be taken to minimise the downtime.

The old BVS wordpress website has been removed now that we are all happily arrived here. If you have any old bookmarks they should be deleted.

There seems to be a glitch in the PM system somewhere. I sent one this morning and it worked fine, I received a reply. When I went to reply, it gave me this error on a white screen:

"Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 8388608 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 737280 bytes) in /home/sites/batteryvehiclesociety.org.uk/public_html/forums/includes/utf/data/utf_compatibility_decomp.php on line 2"

Undeterred, I tried again, with a new PM, rather than a reply, but got the same error. I then switched machines and tried to send a PM from my laptop, but got the same error message. My guess is that it's something in the forum software, rather than at my end, although I can't say that the error message means much to me!

Jeremy

I've cracked it! Having spent over an hour trying to send a PM to Stuart, I've discovered that the error message is triggered by the "£" sign.

Substituting the word "pounds" for the "£" sign allows the PM to be sent.

Bizarre or what?

Jeremy

I think today's software upgrade has fixed this. You should now be able to type pound signs in your PMs. Please let me know if you find otherwise.

You may have seen the site disappear for a few minutes this evening. We have moved folders about behind the scenes in order for redirection from ...iety.org, ...iety.com and ...iety.co.uk to all point at www.batteryvehiclesociety.org.uk

Should be fine now.
