Hi folks,

I was starting to bore myself talking about installing a wind generator so at very long last it done What I didn't realise is that the four legged members of the household may not be as approving as some of the locals who are keen to see how efficient it is.

Here's a short video of how the dogs reacted first time the saw it.

And....there hasn't been any wind since this was taken.

We would be interested to know how you get on with it.
Presumably you have batteries to store the electricity.
Hope the dogs get used to it fairly quickly.

So what sort is it and what are you using for storage and regulation

The dogs are used to it now, thank goodness. However the constant wind we have up here is showing no signs of ever appearing again

I have 6x 110Ah batteries to store the power and a second consumer unit powering additional sockets and lights from the solar and wind. The solar is good from about May to September and fingers crossed the wind generator will provide enough during the winter.




It's a cheapo FD300W with built in controller and dump load. I'm aware of the advantages and disadvantages but I've learned loads doing this and the infrastructure's in place in case I decide to upgrade.

I've a pure sine wave inverter with a solar charge controller (good for 20A) built in which the large panel is connected to. The smaller panel has it's own controller which I like as it has sockets for 3V, 6V and 12v outputs.

Virtually no wind this month here either
Our turbine has been running over 2 years and looks as if we are heading for the worst month's figures
We are at the early stages of setting up a very small 12V solar PV system so that we will be prepared for possible future grid failures

I have a few PV setups around the place and I'm very happy with them, even up here in Scotland. I've been running the TV, freeview, laptop and lighting for about the last eight weeks on only solar. The wind power has only been working for the last couple of days so we've still to suss out how much power it'll supply.
