The non load 12v current to the power steering pump is small, going up to 50 to 70amps under load. AT no load the pump just bypasses. None that I know of were supplied without power steering. I dont believe it is worth the effort or inconvenience to get a tiny amount extra from the main pack. Changing the rack is a major exercise requiring the lowering of the front subframe. Running the power steering at full load for an hour (which you dont ever do ) would equate to about the same power consumption as 2 to 3 miles of range. So I dont think that you would even gain 1mile extra range by removing it.
