I had a number of weird tyre failure modes on the Peugeot 106 while it was still on nicad.
One tyre's tread separated. One developed a big egg which leaked. Two more suddenly started "wobbling" drastically and got noticeably hot while driving (and robbed power).

They were all Michelin Energy, of varying age, rating and country of origin, came off various cars, and run at the max pressure. I've never had any problem like that with other brands so will take it into account next time I'm buying.

The egg and the wobble are the same problem, one of broken re-inforcement threads that go through the casing side wall to side wall. Its generally caused by sidewall damage sheering the steel or fabric threads/ cords, the shape is then forced out of alignment, its worse when the tyres are run at higher pressures.
