reverse gear on sidecar

Have built a motorcycle and sidecar Truimph rocket 3 and am trying to use electric motor as a reverse
Present set up is Drive shaft from sidecar wheel through a Quiffe box which gives me a forward reverse and nuetral
to a EMD motor and 50 to 1 g/box. As a suspected not enough power. Needs
Max speed required only approx 3 miles per hr
Range only approx 1/2 mile or 10 mins
The outfit weighs in at 450 kilo!
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated

It blows a 20 amp fuse but works if i walk alongside
