Brake Servo Vacuum Switch Problem

Do you own or use a EV. Then this is a good place to discuss things.

Thanks for your input, this looks like it could work, my one reservation is the supply voltage to activate the switch, it's showing "250Vac/dc" on the specification?

The switch is activated by vacuum.

It's capable of switching 2 Amps at up to 250 Volt, ac or dc.

You probably need a relay as well to handle the pump current.

I used a MES DEA pump on my Scirocco; Small, quiet, and has all the controlls built in. Quite expensive, but designed for the job. I think they spammed the forum a while back.

This is the current version; http://www.cebi.com/cebi/content/index_ ... 158&info=1

I don't know what kind of pump you have now, but many people will be put off by unpleasant noises in an otherwise very quiet vehicle.

just to agree with paul. On any switch the voltage rating given is always the maximum safe and lower will be fine. You would definitely need a relay. I have recently been quoted a price on the MES DEA pump of £180 plus VAT. I would say it was the only price I got from them, still waiting on the prices of other components. Paul may have a better idea of how to actually get hold of one.

Hi All,

The electric pump was supplied by Grass Roots EV (£100) and works well off the 12V supply if a little noisy. I'm going purchase the switch you recommend, use a standard automotive relay to power the pump and isolate it from the chassis to reduce the noise.

Many thanks and I'll let you all know how I get on.

Cheers,

Ian

For the anti vibration mounts perhaps you could check out this link to a British manufacturer. I used the company for bushes for my custom front suspension and they were cheap and reliable.

If you need to make a vacuum reservoir so that the vacuum pump isn't cycling as often perhaps you could use an old disposable welding gas cylinder as they have a volume of approx 1litre.

Hi

For my car I used a Brake Vacuum Pump off a Volvo (some Volvos and Jags have these on their turbo models)

Vacuum switch was from herga. I called up and the nice chap sent me one free as a sample as the admin would cost them too much! http://www.herga.com/pressure_switches/

I can turn the vacuum down a bit. I do not have a resevoir, but I do have two one way valves, one on the servo, and one btwn the pump and the switch. The pump itself 'leaks' its vacumm quickly, hence the need for teh second one way valve.

On start up the pump runs for about 3 seconds, and then only blips on once every 2 minutes or so.

The pump was £40 from a Volvo scrap yard, and the switch was free...

Hope this is of some help

Christopher
