New battery technology from MIT, who gave us the A123 cell.

A radically new approach to the design of batteries, developed by researchers at MIT, could provide a lightweight and inexpensive alternative to existing batteries for electric vehicles and the power grid. The technology could even make “refueling” such batteries as quick and easy as pumping gas into a conventional car.

The new battery relies on an innovative architecture called a semi-solid flow cell, in which solid particles are suspended in a carrier liquid and pumped through the system

Read the link, apparently a LONG way to go, but noticed the "etcgreen.com" link..... in one post

Anti EVs, but they do make a case for:
"2nd./3rd.-generation biofuels" and
"growing on land where food crops will not" and
"...land...used for 1st. generation bio-fuels must be returned to food-crops ASAP"
ALSO
They criticise EVs mostly for use of:
"...scarce / toxic / needlessly expensive minerals etc....."

As an i.c. guru, what do you think?

Ach, crivens. I never read the comments. That way madness lies.

I didn't think they had "a LONG way to go", either. Maybe 5 years, but not 20. Their A123 company was founded in 2001, and I think may now have peaked and been overtaken by other innovators. We live in hope.
