Snug as a Lithium Bug in a rug.

Postby aminorjourney » Wed Jan 02, 2008 10:20 pm

So, as you may know I have pre 2006 LiIon Thundersky 100AH cells in my LionEl City El.

A few weeks ago when we had days at a time of sub-zero temperatures the El wasn't fun to drive. Pre 2006 cells suffer really badly in the cold and just won't give much power off. They like to be above 10 Degrees or so before they really start to work nicely.

Luckily I found one of those sub-soil heaters that you can pick up at a garden centre for £30 or so. Fitted and placed in my battery pack I can now report the temperature this evening at about 6pm - with the windchill well below Zero to be about 18 degrees C in the battery pack! Bonza!

Yay for simple solutions!

woooh that's pretty good I have been wondering about something along the same lines to keep the oil warm in my car as it's start up which 80+% of the engine wear occurs
