Some interesting Sodium-sulfur/EV related links I stumbled on today.

Dr. Michael Ference of the Ford Motor Co. with a model of the sodium-sulfur battery to power electric vehicles. Dated October 3, 1966.

I remember seeing a Sodium Suphur battery in a Ford Escort Van owned by the police at a early Goodwood Festival of speed...............wonder what happened to it

I found it surprising that a lot of the ideas discussed in that 1966 popular mechanics are some of the same ideas we're seeing again today.

Also, the quality of those old magazine were really good, maybe more detailed with facts and figures than current editions.

M981 XPU This was the first electric police car to be seen in the UK. It is based on a Ford Escort van and is called a Ford Ecostar. It has a number of sponsors listed on the sides and is still owned by Hampshire Police. Ford made a number of these vehicles in the early 1990s which were easily identifiable by the small holes in the wheels and grille. The vehicles had a 15 seconds 0-60 mph time and a large hot sodium battery hidden beneath the cargo floor.

I might have to have a sniff about at Hants and see if I can actually locate the old girl and see what condition its actually in, I remember it well from the show.
