A couple of weeks ago I asked for info on any electric 2CV. Steve Barnes wrote:-

Steve - if you are out there I am very interested in how you coupled the electric motor to the gear box. The only details I can find are in Hungary but I was looking for some where a bit closer to London! Can you help please?

Not sure if you already have a donor vehicle Chris but it strikes me that maybe Steve's dead CV might make an ideal donor particularly as he's done part of the work already too!

A very similar thought had crossed my mind - although I have a donor vehicle or to be more correct it is now in collection of bits!

What I need is the 'coupler unit' between the electric motor and the gear box, or to find out where I am able to aquire one from. The only other example I have seen is on a 2CV in Hungary!!!!

Any ideas?

there isn't to my knowledge one off the shelf and you will have to get one made. I know of someone who could probably do it

I think they may have done a 2CV conversion in the past.

Or you could try sending a PM to Greg Fordyce (forum name GregsGarage).

Fitting the motor was fairly straightforward.

I used a LEMCO motor, and specified a flanged shaft, as opposed to the more usual keywayed shaft. The motor was mounted to the gearbox bellhousing using a 1/4" ali plate suitably mahined. Then I used the splined adaptor removed from the clutch friction plate, and made an adaptor to fit it to the motor.

I really will get my website about the conversion up again, as it has lots of pictures!

I am trying to speak to a human on that web contact so will let you know in due course. Steve - if I dont get anywhere - I should like to come back to you to find out where you aquired the bits and pieces for your conversion. I think I understand batteries and electric motors BUT the missing 'jigsaw piece' at the moment is the mechanics of joining the motor to the gear box. Your 2CV conversion seems to be the only one within reasonable distance - unless you have moved to Hungary!

Thanks for that - I started to read the links and realised that they open to a massive collection of interesting issues on this. Think it will take a couple of weeks to digest!!!!
