Well... we fixed it!

A two hour turn-around too, between terrible bearings and good ones. Can't complain at that, can I?

Both bearings were shot. One was even rusty. With new bearings in place I have a nice smooth ride again. Phew! I thought it was going to be expensive, but it's ended up being a nice cheap reapair.

John turned up with his camera, so we have a nice photo album of the repair

Nice one Nikki,
I notice that the old bearings were metal shielded - 6004 2Z. I hope that you replaced them with branded 6004 2RS ( rubber seals ) Metal shielded cannot really cope with the job in hand as well as rubber seals, and also requires regular oiling.

Regards
Dave

Hi Dave,

Yeah, shocking, isn't it? I've put some more 6004Z in there for the time being as they're what I had lying around.

I shall, however, be ordering 2RS for a not-so cold day when the sun is out and I can replace all the bearings with likewise bearings!
