Electric scooter insurance

Postby Cozza » Thu Feb 28, 2008 11:47 am

Hi there,

I have just purchased a Vectrix Electric Maxi scooter for my business. (Also, hoping to get a City El as well - though that's down the line!)

I've tried so many different insurance companies that won't quote for electric scooters or electric scooters owned by a company, and I'm getting nowhere fast.

Have tried Adrian Flux, NFU Mutual, Footman James, Norwich Union, Carole Nash, AA, Alan & Alan, Peter Best...

The only one that appears to quote is Quinn Direct - £478.09 for comp and £305.29 for third party fire and theft.

Has anyone had better luck with insurers?
Cheers,
Cozza

Hi Cozza

I'm surprised Carole Nash wouldn't quote you, as they went out of their way to give me a quote for my motorcycle conversion (around £150).
The Vectrix site actually recommends Lexham:

Let us know about your impressions of the scooter once you've got it on the road!

Hi there. The BVS has a special deal with footman James for insurance. There is a special number for this. I'm out of the house at the moment so someone else perhaps can dig it out.

What are your circumstances? Insurance quotes will vary a lot depending on geographic location etc.

For city el try Adrian flux. All the city el owners I know use them I think. Certainly the Bristol Two do!

hiya,

I think the problem is that I live in Croydon Borough and don't have a garage (but do have off street parking). Another problem is that my company has purchased the scooter so there is a business element too.

Best quote so far is £300 comp plus legal and breakdown with MCE insurance with £350 excess and £260 for third party fire and theft with £350 excess.

Aminorjourney, would be great to get the special no. from Footman James to see if they can do better.
Cheers,
Cozza
