TREV EV, AMAZING BUT IS IT POSSIBLE?
Just read the news item on the Austrlian Trev. 150km range, 120kph and only 40kg of cells. Is that realistic?
According to the specs on the university site the battery pack weighs 40 kg and has a capacity of 5.5 kWh, which seems a bit high even for lithium polymer, at 137.5 Wh/kg.
To get 150 kilometres (94 miles) it must be using just under 60 Wh/mile. That's roughly what it takes to maintain a steady 30 mph on the flat on my bike, which weighs half as much but must have a pretty poor drag coefficient. It's probably achievable if you drive very carefully on a perfectly flat road. Not really an indication of normal driving range, but it does give some idea of what can be achieved by reducing weight and minimising drag. I really like the idea of a tandem two seater. It's a neat way of reducing frontal area, but to be really effective it should have a narrow track and tilt like a motorbike
