Greenpower racing at Gooodwood

Postby marktime » Sun Apr 26, 2009 7:38 pm

Just got home from the opening race in the Greenpower race at Goodwood,
very good event (it's free to get in).

It's apparent from the first race of the season that the cars are faster and more reliable than this time last year, the winning car 'Electrode' did the best part of 120 miles in four hours on two set of batteries.
Close behind were 'Rpod S' and 'Fordingbridge Flyer'. last years winner 'Zebedee' made a poor start but made some stunning lap times later on (sub 4 mins). The vast majority of the cars did over 80 miles & none did less than 40.

B****y good fun I recomend it!

GreenPower is great fun most of you will know myself John Lilly and Russell took part in it last year with the Red Slug. I'd recommend having a go to anyone. Hopefully I'll be there in it next time. bit busy with other things at the moment though.

Chris I'd love to know what the red car is in this photo, bottom left.

Marktime, I think that was the Renishaw entry - nice car (but a bit big) with an orange nose.
The Sandbach team had a bit of a 'mare with all cars having faulty throttle pots - must have got some damp in. Zebedee also had a grand total of 5 punctures on one wheel - we had to give up before the end, we'd run out of tyres! As you say, when it went it was storming, we did 11 laps on the bounce at lap record pace, which is probably unprecedented.
Needless to say those pots are now retired in favour of microswitches.....

Hi Bob, I saw some of the the stories and post mortems on the greenpower forum

http://www.greenpower.co.uk/forum/ but did not know about the punctures.

They are racing Goblins in Littlehampton this weekend.
