i dont know if this has been covered fully in the forums, if so i am sorry for reposting (i did look but most of it goes over my head)

i was reading about the Tesla motor n thought to myself i gotta build one of them puppys...
1. cus its EV
2. i cant afford a f40 lol

ne ways back to topic i saw the specs and got kinda confused, where the fudge do i get that kinda motor. I did a search n only found press releases about the car not the power train. i found somthing similar but hazy on whats powerful n can be used

if such a motor can be used i would like some pros n cons on it

also if its really not usable what other options i got

Those are industrial 3 phase induction motors from Lenze. Also available from literally hundreds of other suppliers... From an EV perspective they have a few problems, they are HEAVY - 20kW would be pushing 100kg. Also they run off 400Vrms line to line - rather more than you'd want to supply in a battery car. Tesla have got round these issues by having a custom made motor.
Then you need an inverter, because the induction motor wants AC. I believe inverters suitable for EVs are available - I was told of a website last weekend but I couldn't make it work.
Once you've overcome these problems the AC induction motor is very attractive for EVs - it is smooth, quiet and maintenance free, inherently gives regenerative braking and has a wide field weakening range for safe high speed operation and to manage without a gearbox.
