North: Doncaster Saturday 7th June : Informal Show

Postby Teslas fag packet » Fri May 16, 2008 10:20 am

Hi all I have been in communication with the trolleybus Museum at sandtoft, and they have agreed for us to visit them and some of there fantastic attractions and ride around on there trolley bus' For those who are too young to remember a trolley bus (like me) it was an electric bus service which was powered by an over head pantograph running on DC.

Lots of big wires and oily bits to look at and some big tires to kick COOL

Also Aiden Proctor there commercial director has been kind enough to let those of us who wish/can travel in there EV's to recharge, though no mention of money as regard changing up has been made I think it would be nice to bung a couple of quid on your donation as much of the work they do is voluntary.

There is a charge for parking/entry which we have at a concession rate of £3 per car, I think this is well worth it for the experience of riding on a mode of transport from a time before common sense was evolved out.

Some of the attractions include

Selection of Trolleybuses in operation
1960's Shop Window Displays
Motorbus Tours
Digital Presentations in the Lecture Theatre
1950's Prefab
Cafe
Trolleybus "Have a Go" Simulator
Trolleybus Displays
Souvenir Shop and Refreshments
Children's drawing area
Children's Playground

I will be going the 40 miles in my berlingo so that should be fun

So the chap in the car park knows who we are can you please print this out so there is no arguments

Hi All sorry a slight misunderstanding on my part the concision rate only apples to the first two passengers per car any subsequent passengers are subject to the normal entry fee of £5 each for an adult

or put better

£3.00 per car includes up to 2 people.
Additional passengers are normal rates.

Hope this is ok

Cheers

Fine by me Tesla. I was imagining we 3 would just bung them a tenner anyway.

What a grand day out! Thanks Tes for organising this.
The six of us who turned up were treated to a ride around the circuit, instruction on driving tecniques, a guided tour of the extensive collection in the bus shed, and a behind-the-scenes glimpse of the 'power house', including a mercury vapuor 3-phase rectifier.

Amazing stuff!

Yes, thanks again Tesla, well done! The folks at Sandtoft Trolley Bus Museum went out of their way and spent a lot of time showing us around. I was very impressed by what they've achieved. What surprised me most though is that most of the buses are owned by individual enthusiasts who rent storage space from the museum and renovate these lovely old machines as and when they can.

Well worth a visit.

Yes it was a right grand day out at Sandtoft I have to say. Tesla & I understandably were the only ones to turn up in an EV (distance) that's two of us in his Berlingo, I only dared to take mine as far as his house. I think we'll be seeing some photies soon, not sure how yet?. My favourite was the single decker 120HP from France that had the accelorator pedal that worked the wrong way round (press down for no power, foot off for go like hell) .
