Hi,
I have found a really good site that supplies sensors and pcb's that interface to computers via USB.
It is meant for the hobbyist, however the product is very good and I can imagine all kinds of applications such as DIY battery management systems, charger control etc etc.

There are ac and dc current sensors, voltage sensors, temperature and motion sensors.
I am looking at building a charge controller maybe, will let you know how I get on.
