Years ago there were flywheel powered buses operating for at least a short time, I think. I've no idea how effective they were, but do recall reading about them many years ago - I have a feeling that they were a wartime invention. I believe they used an electric drive system as well, but their range...

Area informal meetings?
There seem to be a few of us who live around the South/South West of the country. I've noticed that the Bristol and also the North West area seem to have occasional get togethers, so does anyone fancy an informal pub meet somewhere reasonably central for the Southern members?

I owned a Prius for three years, so can give you a view as to it's strengths and weaknesses. For my 40 mile each way commute to work, on slow A and B roads (average speed around 40mph) the Prius gave excellent economy, about 62mpg in the Summer, dropping to about 56mpg in the Winter (it is very temp...

Interesting. I think for that layout you've drawn, the sensors have to go in the centre of the stator poles to get 120 degree triggering. For a twelve segment stator it may not be as critical, plus 30 degrees on the stator is really 120 electrical degrees, I think. Shifting the sensor to the edge of...

I've only a little experience with BLDC motors, so anything I write here has to be taken with that in mind! My first electric bike project used a big, low speed, direct drive, hub motor. That motor weighed about 4.5kg and would absorb around 1kW or so and was fitted with Hall position sensor feedbac...

Although those pot joints give the smoothest drive, as they are CV type couplings, the Hardy Spicer inboard joints are the strongest. They weren't just fitted to the S, some of the other Cooper variants had the same couplings, but with thinner drive shafts (S shafts were thicker to take competition ...

Malcolm, I guess that you may have already worked this out, but did you know that you can interchange the drive shaft inboard ends to get them both of an equal length (if that helps)? I did stacks of work years ago to try and make a new straight cut diff for my old race Cooper S that allowed equal l...
