Re: Expert battery advice needed - Aixam Mega City

I agree with Jeremy - they are just AGM batteries, and any other brand of AGM batteries of similar Ah capacity should need an identical charging profile. Some years ago I had a set of the same batteries as yours (though my vehicle was not an Aixam). I replaced them with Powersonic batteries which ar...

Re: dc-dc converter

I see that the output voltage of the converter is 13.8v. This is suitable for "float charging" a 12v battery. Once the 12v battery is charged, the converter should draw very little current from the high voltage input. (You could always check this yourself with an ammeter) On my EV the DC-D...

Re: Long range lithium conversion

I bought a DC / AC Clamp meter with I think 1000 amps. Had it a year or so and it was well under £50. E bay of course, from Hong Kong. Its been really useful. Its not the worlds greatest at low current, but its really useful in checking battery flows etc. I will try and look out the vendor name. I ...

Re: Gearbox Identification Help

Your friend should certainly not spend any money on Li-Ion batteries until he has sorted out his top speed problem. You have said that he wants to achieve 55mph Li-Ion may have the potential to give slightly better performance because of its lighter weight - but this will be offset because for any g...

ping battery problem - advice please!

I bought two battery packs from ping - one was 36v 40Ah and one was 48v 40Ah. Because the are quite large, each pack came in two halves. At one end of each is a single thick wire with an Anderson connector, so that the two can be connected in series. At the other end of each pack, there is a thick p...

I am seriously considering getting some Ping batteries for my EV (yes, I would need quite a few of them). But I need some more info about the BMS supplied by Ping - in particular about the over-discharge protection. Does it reduce the current to keep the voltage above at a minimum acceptable level? ...

You could look at the "Emergency disconnect" switches made by Albright International. Should be able to handle 300A.

The choice seems to be between the blue 16A plug/sockets that you illustrate, or standard domestic 13A sockets. I don't think that you are likely to find any other type of socket to charge from. Public charging points will almost certainly have either 13A or 16A sockets (or both if you are lucky). I...

A British company called Hobut (http://www.hobut.co.uk) make a range of shunts to go with their ammeters. I got a 300A one from them, but I expect they can do 500A or more. (Surely there is no need to specify the system voltage for a shunt. It won't see that voltage because it is in series in your p...

You asked what we know of the reputation of the importer, John Lily. Well, he is the Chairman of the esteemed Battery Vehicle Society, whose forum you are on. What else can I say! I bought an Elcat through him 2 years ago and it is going quite well. One problem with them is that they are being sold ...
