Re: Dumb question, from Ed....
Pouch cells will give you the best energy per unit volume (and probably the best per unit weight, too). A typical 20C rated LiPo pouch cell will give you about 150Wh per kg assembled into a pack, so around 50kg for the 7.5kWh pack you're after. Volume wise, you need to allow space for terminations, ...

Re: A new vehicle from Sinclair ! The c5 mark 2 ??
I spotted it from a link on the ES forum a day or two ago. The bodywork looks OK, but I wonder what on earth Sinclair were thinking of by giving it tiny 16" wheels and no suspension. On anything other than nice smooth roads (not a lot of those about where I live......) the ride will be dreadful...

Re: New toy.........
I've bought one ready-built 75Kv motor and one kit of parts to wind my own. Virtually all these motors are wound very inefficiently in China, using multi-strand wire to make winding quicker. This massively reduces the amount of copper in the stator, so impacting adversely on winding resistance and e...

Re: New toy.........
You're right, driving them with the typical sensorless, back EMF position feedback ESCs that the RC people use doesn't give good results at low speed, high torque as, with the exception of one or two very expensive ESCs, they tend to lose sync and often have poor start-up algorithms. There are some ...

Re: My EVT4000e scooter, li-ion project ?
Visted the ES site and it just scares the willies out of me with all their talk of BMS, cells and stuff. ChrisB goes away and has a further think about retepsnikrep cells Chris, It really isn't as scary as it seems when you get down to it. The easy route (if a bit more expensive) would be to buy on...

Re: New toy.........
They are double FETs in each package, already connected a half bridge. Each FET is rated at 680 amps, 100V, with an Rdson of 1.8mOhm, so OK for a fair bit of power..............
I'm probably not going to run at those sort of power levels, I'm aiming for around 60V and 150 to 200 amps max.

Re: New toy.........
In essence, this is a fairly low duty cycle motor, but not, perhaps, as low a duty cycle as an average road vehicle power plant. The motor in the picture is 75Kv, and is best suited to running at around 60V or more and maybe a couple of kW continuous. I also bought a motor kit (essentially all the m...

Re: expensive
Compared to what? Personally I'm not at all sure that electric motors are expensive. They are probably cheaper than other forms of motive power. For example, I've just bought a couple of 7kW BLDC motors for around £100 each; I doubt that I could buy a 7kW internal combustion engine for anything like...

As some here will know, I've been playing about with small brushless motors, intended for use on model aircraft, for some time now. I have been impressed with their ability to deliver a couple of kW or so from a tiny package, but have just acquired something a little larger: Colossus 7kW.JPG This mo...

Re: My EVT4000e scooter, li-ion project ?
Personally I think that a Ping pack will struggle trying to drive a scooter. The peak current will probably be over the BMS limit and may cause a few shutdowns. If you don't want to faff about building a BMS, you could just try buying one off the shelf. There are a few around now, ranging from the b...
