As you can see I removed all the cells for testing and here they are along with the two replacements.

Re: Long range lithium conversion
I am not sure which came first ( chicken or egg) but what I have ended up with is 2 dead cells that are swollen to hell. It makes sense to me that high current would make for high temperature and I assume swelling like I have would surely need high temperature. I think I have read that cells swell w...

Re: Dragon Astra TLC required
Mike Yes 1st gear is probably not needed. I think the final drive has failed rather than the input because one side is much noisier than the other. There is a top balancing BMS in the charger but nothing to monitor individual cells at the bottom. I will leave things as they are for the time being. L...

Re: Dragon Astra TLC required
Thanks to Tim I now have some cells to repair the Car. When I got home from Tim's house there was a replacement gearbox sat on a pallet so I had better get cracking. I suppose the huge torque that an electric motor can produce in first gear must have destroyed the final drive bearings. Before that I...

Re: Long range lithium conversion
Hi All Just read some of this thread out of interest as I drove to Tims house yesterday to collect some cells for repairing the Astra. Bit of a trip from Norwich so I decided to ICE being as I don't yet have rapid charging 24/7 route from Norwich to the West. I could probably reach the services at P...

Re: Using a battery dc source to power the home along with s
Used lead acid cells should not cost much. Last time I took them to the scrap and got 25p per kilo. As you know the export electricity is usually not metered but you get paid for half what you generate. I am not sure if systems are available to use up the excess from your panels by battery charging....

Re: Dragon Astra TLC required
Ah so the regen could be controlled by the brake light switch. Seems a bit crude just to have one level of regen. Is this Zapi normal practice?

Re: Dragon Astra TLC required
I know you should not reply to your own post but I will anyway. Starting to look at Electrifit Zapi controllers and I see they may do a regenerative braking setup. I think this may be what I have got as there is a complicated array of 5 contactors which seems similar to the photos I have seen. If so...

Dragon Astra TLC required
Yesterday I collected the first Astra conversion from Dragon vehicles circa 2009. Dare I say it, the only Astra conversion? On test driving the vehicle the thing I noticed was the final drive is the noisiest I have ever heard, ICE noise will cover a lot but not this I imagine. The noise is mainly on...

Re: Charging adaptors
I know this is an old thread but I have just been referred by another forum. The AV2 is not suitable for this adapter as it requires a 12v supply. All that is required I think is a diode and 1.2k ohm resistor to ground to indicate to the charger that car is connected and requesting power. The push b...
