To rent or not to rent

I agree that new technology is usually expensive, especially when the take up is slow, but Saft have been making NiCads for years & they are reliable enough to be used in aircraft as standard equipment. PSA have made thousands of electric cars, vans & scooters since the early 90s, as have Re...

To rent or not to rent

The biggest arguement for leasing seems to be the high cost of these battery packs. With mass production & changing technology is there any reason WHY they cost so much? A lead - acid battery costs about 60 pounds so that is 600 quid for a set for my 106, why are NiCads ten times the price? I wo...

To rent or not to rent

Hi Ed, My thinking is that NiCad batteries are now reliable & the technology proven. PSA are not making electric cars at the moment so there is no need to protect their reputation. If I ran a diesel 106 & covered 10000 miles a year my fuel costs here would be about 1550 euros pa. To rent the...

Maintainence charge

Thanks Evan,
So what advantage will the Evlite give me & what sort of things will it tell me? Would it aid me if I went to look at another PSA EV with a view to buy? Is it idiot proof?
I'm beginning to get a handle on these EV things & I think the Chevvy Volt looks cool!

Maintainence charge

Thanks guys, Is there any harm in watering the batteries at any time? The Peugeot van had been unused for a few years so I did not want to charge them without watering. They took almost 15 litres. Also, what does a maintainence charge actually do? :? Evan, does your Evlite tell me in simple terms wh...

Maintainence charge

Hi guys,
:? I read quite a lot about a maintainence charge, but how & when is this done. Can it be carried out at home? I can always go to the specialist in Bordeaux but he is 100 kms away.
Many thanks,

Pug 106 Battery removal

Hi gang, I have the opportunity to get a set of batteries for my 106 but I would have to go to Nice to remove them from the donor car. Does anyone know what is involved & if any special equipment is required? I am new to the workings of electric cars but I can change a torch battery without caus...

To rent or not to rent

I have another thread asking if anyone has actually asked Saft if they can supply "pre loved" batteries. When I had my Clio serviced the specialist found 3 faulty batteries but had a supply of good used ones which were fitted. Total cost 480 euros. Where is HE getting them...? With such es...

Used Saft batteries.

I was wondering if anyone knows why Saft will not sell second hand batteries to the public? Many low mileage cars & vans appear on the market here in France whose battery packs were leased & have been returned to the leasing company via the local dealer. If they were off my new Pug 106 then ...

Batteries

Very interesting debate! I have just purchased a Peugeot 106 without batteries as the batteries were on contract. The car is seven years old & has covered 16000 kms - about 10000 miles. The batteries cost 150 euros a month which means that this car has cost 1 euro per km!!! I figure ten times th...
