New web site

I have stumbled upon a good site for general interest "EVAlbum" which has pics and write up's on many ev's, both production and conversions. One thing I don't understand tho, with the same motor, controller, voltage and vehicle size all those guys are going much faster and farther than I. ...

capacitors

I'm new here so I may have missed it. Have you had any discussion about capacitors as a battery replacement (not an assist) ?

Amp draw

Geeky;
My Dodge Ram 50 (Mitsubishi) pickup pulls 90A at 30-32 mph. I have 6 deep cycle 12V lead acid batterys. I am new at this but my range appears to be 15-20 miles. An acquaintance of mine says range can be roughly estimated at 1 mile for 20# of lead.

Hey Cat; Thanx for the reply. The back emf reasoning makes sense, I had not thought of that. Is the emf dependant on rpm, current or both? If both, in what proportions? Can it be overridden with increased voltage? My truck goes faster with 72V than it did with 36V and I'll bet it would be faster yet...

Tim As a series wound, the motor has no max rpm. It will keep right on spinning til it scatters itself. The motor speed that I am getting appears to be abt 3500 rpm. I say appears because I have no tach at this point; the speed is calculated from road speed. tommyt

I just put some larger tires on the back and as expected the truck goes faster and pulls more amps. I think I learned something but I don't know what.

Many of the posts on this subject seem to imply that the car companys are deliberately withholding EVs. What incentive do they have to do this? If the manufacturers (cars or any other product) are good at anything, it is producing an item that the public wants to buy. tommyt

Educate me!

I have an '82 Dodge Ram 50 (Mitsubishi) pickup running 72V (lead acid) with a D&D series wound motor and an Alltrax 7245 controller. I should add that I have installed rather small tires - 21 1/2" standing height. It will max out, with the pedal floored, on a level road, at 30 mph while dra...
