Don't mind me, I talk to myself all the time :) Anyway, I got impatient and wired up the tachometer the simplest way possible, with 12V supply to positive and negative terminals, and the reed switch connected between the coil terminal and the positive terminal. No luck, all I got was a little flicke...

An interesting discussion and some good ideas, but they all bring up a question I've been meaning to ask for a while. Who actually manages the forum and BVS website, and are they funded by the BVS? I believe ChrisB was involved in setting it up originally and that Tim has been involved lately, but t...

I'm hoping someone can help me with a little advice on setting up a tachometer to monitor the speed of my motors. It may seem a bit premature to want to do this before I've even started putting everything together, but I want to check the timing of my motors first, before I set about advancing them ...

Just to confirm what Jeremy says above and add that some people have found the process easier if you maintain a current MOT on the vehicle you're converting, just to minimise confusion when you come to change the fuel taxation class. It's also important to keep a record of information such as motor ...

Hi Mike and welcome! It would help us give you relevant advice if you could give some idea of the loaded weight of the quad and the performance you want from it, but here are a few links to get started :) General inspiration: http://www.evalbum.com/ Pancake motors: http://www.agnimotors.com/home/ (b...

I like that little article about Bamber and his G-Wiz, especially the idea of swapping cars with his neighbour when needed. That makes a lot of sense.

Is it a big company? Does it have an environmental policy or anyone who is assigned to handle environmental issues? If the company is at all concerned about its environmental image then it may be worth contacting whoever deals with these things and suggesting that this could be a feather in their ca...

Regarding the spec of the motor it is 80 volt, 15 KW, 220 Amp. 2000 rpm.The motor without the pump is about 10 diameter and 14 inch long. I do know you can safely overvolt motors a fair degree, but do not how this affects the kw, i would prefer to keep it to spec and hope to be able to use this for...

Just a quick update. I'm making slow progress here, but I've managed to sort out one problem that was nagging at me. I'd originally wanted to mount the motors face to face across the subframe, with each motor driving a drive shaft independently via toothed belts. Problem was the motors were too long...

Fascinating stuff – the closer you look the more complicated things get.

Just to add to the confusion: When does moist air become denser than dry air and why doesn't fog rise? :)
