Thanks for the offer, Howard, but I'm already well into building my Yamaha conversion.

Getting back on track a bit (pun intended.....) have any of you tried to work out what the average power demand is for your bikes at various speeds? I've done some crude measurements on my little Yamaha to try and calculate the rolling resistance (really simple stuff, measuring the tyre drag at low ...

Well, the LED lights that I I've already bought don't have any warnings on at all. The rear/stop/number plate LED light I have is E marked, so that's OK. The replacement headlamp I have isn't E marked, but then small bike headlights don't need to be. The indicator LED bulbs aren't marked, but curiou...

Interestingly, the law seems to allow the use of unmarked LED bulbs in a light fitting of an approved type, as far as I've been able to tell. The Road Vehicles Lighting Regulations 1989 state specifically that filament bulbs must carry an approval mark, but no mention is made of any approval require...

The Killacycle uses 1210 A123 LiFePO4 cells, not nickel chemistry cells. IIRC it runs at around 374V, with about 2000A max current from the Zilla controller. I doubt it would go all the way around the island, as it only does about six 1/4 mile runs on one charge........... Mighty impressive though, ...

The motor and controller is from Tongxin, in China. Their website is http://www.tongxin.net.cn/en/summerise.htm . The contact there is Diana Lin. The batteries are from Li Ping, an eBay seller with the user name pingping227 on http://www.ebay.com . Li Ping will sell direct, rather than via eBay, if ...

Thanks for the info on the ACU licence, if the organisers are sensible then they will, no doubt, see that there is a lot of merit in encouraging participation from people who most probably don't have a motorcycle racing background. I wholeheartedly agree with your views about performance, I doubt th...

Thanks for the compliment. Range is around 25 miles or so, but I've not tested it fully as I only use it for relatively short trips. The motor is fully legal, as the motor gearing means that assist stops at about 15mph. The motor is actually rated at 240 watts continuous I believe, but the controlle...

My first (semi) EV project
Last year I set about converting by recumbent bike to electric assist. I thought some might be interested in how it turned out. The original bike was a fairly typical Taiwanese under seat steering SWB recumbent. I fitted a very light weight (2.5kg) motor to the 20" front wheel. To prevent the m...
