Re: Battery testing

Thanks Greg - a pleasure.

I think what happened was that the cell capacity dropped to a level that it couldn't live with the 70 DoD I was using, so it dropped off the voltage knee whilst the others were still fine.

Nice looking job on the Matiz. Are you happy with the HiPower cells?

Battery testing

I am working on a conversion (a 2007 Civic) and have been doing some automated testing on 8 cell packs. The first two test series used Headway 38120S cells, and I am in the process of upgrading the rig (more amps) to repeat the test with 8 of the new CALB 40 cells. The main objective of the testing ...

I would be grateful for anyone's help on a particular point: published papers on cell balance in Lithium chemistry cells. I have for example read with interest a whitepaper written by Dr Kutkut ("Life cycle testing of series battery strings with individual battery equalisers") documenting ...

Re: National: ElectraCon conference 2010, Manchester

How did this event go ? It was something I'd love to have visited but simply couldn't make it - any "match reports" from the day ? I thought it was great: to my mind there was quite a contrast (which we will have to grapple with) between the "mainstream commercial" bit (e.g. the...

Re: National: ElectraCon conference 2010, Manchester

The event last year was amongst the best events I've had the pleasure of attending on any topic at any time.

I hope to come this year (responsibilities for14 year olds permitting). If so, I'll be driving from the Midlands if anyone would like a ride.

Re: How environmentally friendly are electric cars?

The carbon footprint calculations included the carbon impact of sourcing the fuel and transporting it to the power station, the production of the power, and the average transmission losses as it was delivered to the car. Did you also estimate the impact of distributing the liquid fuel for the IC ca...

Paul that's most interesting. I'd just assumed that regen was (in practice if not theory) the preserve of AC jocks 8)

Re: reverse

jl Yes, you can. On my first conversion, that's the way I did it. The motor was a D&D ES 15A-6 and the reversing contactor was an Albright SW182. By the way, I am now using a gearbox, and the Albright is no longer needed and is for sale - $50 +ship Tom Thomson Indiana USA Many thanks Tom - that...

Reverse

I'm an EV newbie so this may be a dumb question.... Can you reverse a series DC motor like Netgain's Warp? With a PM electric motor (I assume, unless there are any gotchas), just reversing the polarity does it: but reversing the polarity on a series wound motor reverses both field and armature. Do D...
