Hi,

New to the forum. I just picked up a Allied Peugeot Boxer from a salvage market that was sold by the local council. The van is 3 phase charge only according to the sheet from Allied

http://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&rct=j& ... X3_OLr-Fsw

The first problem I have is charging the main batteries as they are down to 30%. Looking at the main plug with in the engine bay of the van it has a 7 pin connector wile the standard 3 phase power supply I have has only a 5 pin connector.

Does anyone know what I would need to charge the van?

Thanks,
Fin

Hello Fin

A couple of forum users have experience of the Allied vans. Hopefully one of them will be along soon to lend their experience.

In the mean time, can you post a picture of your 7 pin plug? Maybe that will help us to help you.

My Company deal with allied vans.

Could you post a picture of the plug? I have never seen one with a 7 pin AC inlet.

Mike

Thanks for the replies.

See link for image on the plug that's on the van.

The plug has 6 poles and a earth when the 3 phase plug has 3 poles + earth and neutral. I have had a look in to this and spoken to a few electricians. As this van is ex council, its looking like the council have had this plug fitted to the van for extra safety. The centre pin looks like it a pilot pin, which I have been told is for safety as it stops arcing if the plug is pulled when power is being transferred.

Looking inside the plug I can see that it has Phase 1,2 and 3 which are black. The 4th pin has a blue cable indicating that it would be neutral . The 5th pin is empty and the 6 centre pin is the pilot which isn't needed as long as you have a switched power supply. It also has a earth.

I have now took the male plug off the vans extension cable and replaced it with a 3 phase standard 5 pin plug. As I now know what the cables are I have connected Phase 1,2 and 3 to the correct pins on the 3 phase plug. I have also connected the earth and neutral and insulated the pilot cable.

I am going to plug it in tomorrow and see if it charges. I will let you know how I get on.

Small update.

Plugged the van in to the 3 phase supply and everything seems ok with the plug. The front fan came on and the display on the dash showed (In charge). The problem is now its not pulling any current as the display shows 0A. Anyone have a ideas of what may be wrong. I am thinking that there may be a fault with 1 or more battery cells and the charger is refusing to charge.

Thanks,
Fin

It needs plugging in to diagnostics to see what is going on.

I may be interested in purchasing some.

Would you consider selling the whole van rather than stripping it?

I'm a bit late now that the van is stripped, but I will add this for completeness and future reference.

I just found this on Martin Winlow's shop site:
http://evbitz.uk/EVBitz.uk/T2___CEE.html#id10

My understanding is that only some of these conversions have both single phase charging AND three phase charging...

Maybe this explains the unusual plug.
