Do you own or use a EV. Then this is a good place to discuss things.

Miev

Postby Grumpy-b » Fri Jun 15, 2012 4:01 pm

A couple of years ago I had a demo of an MIEV at the LCV show. I took one out today via my local Mitsubishi dealers, who had one on charge outside (MK external socket 13amp plug getting nice and hot to the touch) and one inside that was previously enjoyed and totally flat, no power not even 12 volt. I asked about power consumption in watt / mile and they had no idea , until they looked in the brochure. They also had never been asked about cost of replacement battery pack. They did find out and its near to £9k fitted.
Drive is nice, but not as spirited as I had expected compared to my Berlingo. Much more usable on dual carriage ways and certainly better able to join them at reasonable speeds. Nice build quality, but so small. It difficult to think that you could buy a similar sized small ICE car for under £8k, you can buy a real lot of power for £16k which is the balance you would have to pay for a new one. They had an 18month old one (Dead on the Showroom floor) for £17k.
I was disappointed that they clearly had limited understanding of EVs, but a simple salesman patter, hopefully that will change. Mitsubishi also try and insist on the provision of an email address, or else the salesman can be penalised financially. What a shame.
They will however arrange a longer term trial, it just takes a few days to get you on their insurance. So at least they will try and encourage you to take up the EV challenge.
No Fast charge at the site and a std 13amp socket on the forcourt.
The vehicle options are largely limited to the In car entertainment, and the huge array of over the top graphic that you can have applied on the outside and startling colours on bits of the interior.

Brand new and left hand drive (more valuable and easier to sell than rhd) reserved today for £15.000 at discounted promotional price

I think good deal, regular price in Germany for example is 25.000 EUR

Shiny, but not cheapest. That 09 plate iMiev I linked to in June is still on eBay:

I think £2000 is not a big deal for a car 2011 compared to 2009 model.
I would choose more expensive 2011 version, but as mentioned above I already got Peugeot iOn 2012 brand new and left hand drive for about £15.000 including VAT (I can claim back about £1200 of that VAT here in Poland). So totally brand new car is £13.800 - which I think is good price :) Now I'm happy iOn owner ;D
