Replacement batteries for Lepton electric moped

Postby badnewswade » Tue Feb 17, 2009 2:22 pm

Hi, Has anyone ever had a Lepton Electric moped? I'm looking for replacement batteries for one, it takes four "EV 12v 60ah Tudor Drysafe electric vehicle" batteries.

They sound similar to the old dryfit A300's which are now superceded I think by A512-60g

Did they look a bit like the large version of these ??

No idea what they look like, it's on auction at ebay which finishes tonight. Just had a rather expensive quote for four 12v 55ah batteries, more than £400!

How much are the ones you're thinking of?

Get the scooter home and then post up some photographs of what the batteries look like, along with some height, depth and width measurements.

As a rough guestimate, you'll probably be looking at a bill of between £250-300 for new batteries.
My new book is out: The 2011 Electric Car Guide is available from Amazon and all good bookshops.

Yeah I'd suspect something along those lines Mike as well.

Better to go with a Lipo pack

I decided not to because the batteries seemed so expensive and I had no way of knowing if the bike would even work. It just seemed like too much of a pig in a poke.

Question: If I do buy an electric moped, how can I save money on batteries? They seem to need around 48v 55-60ah to do around 40 miles, but I was quoted £420 ex vat (so nearly £500) for 4x 12v 55ah SLAs.

You could look out for some ex UPS/alarm batteries ??

Try phoning up your local fire alarm installer and see if they have any, ok they will have been on float for 3 yrs but as long as they dont cost a lot which they generally dont as they have to pay for them to be disposed.
