Different charger weirdness

I have a 120V Zivan charger and 10 Odyssey gel lead acid batteries (all new). I was told to check and adjust the voltage pot to make sure it was right. On profile D it is supposed to peak at 148Volts and float at 135, which lines up with the battery specs, so in an ideal world it would be fine straight out of the box. In practice sometimes it goes above 148 (and I turn it off and/or turn down the pot) and sometimes gets nowhere near. On two consecutive charges it went to 148 and got turned off, and went on to float at 136. Could the current be wrong? any idea what the default settings ought to be in terms of turns from fully in?

I have a Zivan too, for my 96v system, and was wondering what it peaked at.

So to reply with more questions and hi-jack your thread, but...

How do you know the peak? Do you have a voltmeter that records peak voltage, or have you stood there for 8hrs?!

If you're using the voltmeter method what model have you got? I want one!

I'll do some testing with my system and post the results ASAP.

The Odyssey batteries are NOT gel (which people use as a catch all term for any 'sealed' battery), but AGM (absorbed glass matt).

Is the charger fitted with a temperature probe?

AGM batteries have an internal oxygen recombination reaction that is temperature dependent. A warm battery may well not come up to voltage and since the NG3 is one of the most stupid 'intelligent' chargers around, it will still keep pumping in the current and raising the battery temerature still more.
