MIMA For the Honda Insight.

I have just completed a mod on my car and Installed MIMA (Manual Integrated Motor Assist) a clever computer from American Insight Enthusiast Mike Dabrowski.

This can give an improvement on mpg of from 5-15% at no extra energy cost. It is not a plug in mod like the Prius which uses grid power to extend the range.

MIMA gives you full control over the Insight IMA system allowing you to turn it off or commanding full assist/regen when reqd. Basically it allows you to use full assist to climb hills, and then more efficient regen to recapture that energy when the terrain is more suitable.

On my first test yesterday, wife and I drove 280 miles including some good hills, and mpg is showing 105.2mpg now  . Pretty impresive for a start. Mima has lots of options as well to tailor this new control :)

Excellent work, Peter. Do I detect the possibility of an article for the Hybrid section of the magazine?

Now had a chance to really get to grips with new MIMA computer system on a decent run.

This clever upgrade from Mike Dabrowski an American Insight Enthusiast has resulted in a 10% increase in mpg from the sublime to the ridiculous!

This is a drivers mod because it requires thought and skill in use, and can be used for performance or economy. I choose economy and in the run down to Norwich and back yesterday on the notorious A1, A17, A47 bimbling along with the HGV's at 50mph, mpg was upto 115mpg at one point about a 100 miles in. However final reading was :-

Not bad for over 300 miles. The mod basically seems to have increased my mpg from mid 90's to mid 100's! :D

For a 15 minute 100mb divx detailed video on a standard Honda Insight made by Honda UK go here.

For details of the MIMA computer upgrade go here :-

The mod is also used by Paul Andrews in his Insight Rally car for performance obviously! ... ly-car.htm ... lying_2006

Maybe you could write something for the next issue of Plugged in about your installation and the results? I think you've missed this issue but maybe the next one :)
