Photon Project: Help needed

Postby bas-kirmani » Fri May 01, 2009 2:19 pm

Dear all,

I was hoping to introduce you to a finished project, but time and financial urgency require that I turn to some like minds. I'm a medic, not an engineer, so consider these an amateurish first attempt:

http://bas-photon-car.blogspot.com

As you can see, the car is in trike format with specially designed spaceframe for my two-person format. Skin will be in fibre reinforced resin. Total weight about 500kg. Drive from a rear mounted Impulse9 drive via 3:1 chain reduction - simple bike mechanics with a 600A 96V drive to back up the light frame. I have no pics of the motor and cells in situ, though the chassis is rolling again after painting.

Now I'm stuck with some small particulars. I can't seem to find provision or advice on the following components:

a. Main contactors / Reversing contactors.
b. Appropriate control circuits
c. Metering of drive electrics.
d. EMI reduction components.

If anyone could help with any of these, I would be immensely grateful. I'd love to showcase the project on the BVS platform, but I did want to make some solid progress before introducing myself.

Hi Bas
Looks as if you've made some good progress. Here are a couple of suggestions.

a.)
Main contactors:
Kilovac EV200, eBay item 190302878536
I bought two from this seller recently. Very quick delivery.

Reversing contactors:
Cheapest I've seen is Kelly:

(Don't know about the quality though.)
This UK supplier has a good range of Albright contactors, but not cheap:

c.)
Not sure if this what you're after, but:

When you refer to control circuits do you mean battery management systems?

Hi bas-kirmani.
It is absolutely amazing, that is what i was intending to build but building my house set this back.
Great job, and brilliant ideas. What did you use for front suspension and steering? Is that 25mm box secion u used troughout?
Did u did rough calculations of speed/distance?

Thanx again for the post, bravo
