Thanks guys, all offers of help will be followed up on in due course!

One area I am going to ask for help is in selecting and using a document management/content management system. Whilst I am fairly technical myself, I think it would be best to have a system that other people who are less technical than I am can use it as well. It would also be good to be able to link it into the BVS web site - possibly in a members only area.

Hi Mike,

I dont know if this will help but here goes.

We have a scanner at work that has a sheet feeder that will produce (bitmap) PDF images. Obviously you will not be able to search for text in these without OCRing it. However, this might alleviate the effort, where there are more than say 3 sheets per 'book'.

Thank you all for the offers for help. I will be taking you up on these offers! This week I am on holiday, so nothing really will happen until I get back and arrange to take over the archive as it currently stands.
