Re: Old BMS Hardware Thread
Greg, I'd like to share one of my KiCad experiences with you. It is well worth checking the soldermask layers in a gerber viewer because I had an issue with a 3mm led that was in the standard library that you get with KiCad. The pads on the footprint file (viewable from cvpcb and fixable from pcbnew...

Re: 8 Battery Lead Acid Slave Board
I've got a first draft of the slave software done :) I have only made one command available using pulsin at the moment. I am crunching together the master software at the moment. Unfortunately I've discovered a howler of a hardware error  The Picaxe pin I have the charger current sensor attach...

Re: 8 Battery Lead Acid Slave Board
SOFTWARE: I've had some initial thoughts about software. Slave The slavebus will use the El Cheapo fibre link and communicate using pulsin / pulsout, this will enable the master to give more commands to the slaves. The slaves will chirp back on the masterbus to acknowledge all commands and to relay ...

Re: Master Board Version 3
Comments and error checking please. It's important we get schematic right Peter, I still can't make proper sense of the master input on your schematic. If the idea is to prevent the Pic input from coming within a diode drop of VDD and GND to prevent latchup I would like to submit my idea for consid...

Re: Master Board Version 3
i could add an opto interface Rxd/Txd connector using the cheapo fibre circuits that have been discussed on the other thread
Sounds like a plan I'm going to use it on my slave bus.

Re: 8 Battery Lead Acid Slave Board
Sometimes it IS that easy!!! I am still tinkering with the el cheapo fibre link and have finally arrived at the correct choice of ingredients. Receiver is the TEPT4400 from Vishay and the transmitter is an ultrabright 5mm red led with clear optics (from ebay). The led is driven via a 220R resistor d...

Re: 8 Battery Lead Acid Slave Board
RESULT :D Using just the LM393 comparator, I can get 300 baud serial. Using an op-amp first I can get 1200 baud serial 8) The phototransistor can't drive a 10K pulldown so I am using 39K. I wonder if I could omit the comparator now or use the other op-amp on the LM393 with positive feedback as a com...

Re: 8 Battery Lead Acid Slave Board
I have made up a test rig using two picaxes and the el cheapo LED / phototransistor fibre optic assembly. Using the simple transistor amplifier on the receiver end has allowed a reliable 100ms pulse to be transmitted and received. This is all I need to get my slave bus running fibre optics on the ch...

Re: 8 Battery Lead Acid Slave Board
UPDATE: The combined master/8 slave boards have been despatched from China :D I've changed some of the values on the schematic to make absolutely 100% sure the picaxe adc input can't exceed 5V I had a little play with the el cheapo fibre link but didn't get anything useful from it. Looking at things...
