Re: Using a battery dc source to power the home along with s

I have heard it said that they were considering this in Japan. I would not want to waste the life of my expensive li-cells in this way. Lead cells from EVs become nonviable due to their Internal Resistance but still have a useful capacity. Weight and volume is much less of an issue. I would assemble...

Re: Collecting a TESLA

What would it take to make a car as good as a Tesla? It would probably need 2 motors for enough power. The batteries might need to be Tesla style in order to be light and small enough. We cannot get High voltage gear unless it comes from scrap cars. I wonder if breaking 2 Leafs and making a 4 wheel ...

Review of 3 months Leaf Ownership

Hi All Just blogging a few random thoughts. Touch wood the car has been 100% reliable. I have never run out of Juice. There are issues with my operation of the menu system and controls, whether more thorough reading of the manual would help I am not sure. It seems the Visia Model which I have may ha...

Re: BMW I3

Subevo I am confused by your opinion of the Leaf. I leave it in Eco which I find quite enough. I do think that it likes to be driven economically but if ever I have put my foot down I have been more than satisfied. You can never get caught in the wrong gear for example. When I have demonstrated its ...

Re: HE DATA 1000/48 DC Motor Controller from www.gravitron.c

Looking up this controller I see that it can regenerate with a series motor which is unusual. There are separate circuits to the armature and field. It would appear that the controller itself can reverse torque without the aid of a contactor that is required in the more usual setup. The forward reve...

What future inprovements in vehicles are possible?

Modern Battery Vehicles such as the Nissan Leaf are truly excellent but what improvement can we envisage? Well an improvement in Battery Technology will certainly improve the car but I suspect that is beyond the scope of anything us amateurs may aspire to. Aeorodynamics are clearly a factor in the s...

Down to £21k now for a 2011 with 11,000 miles on!! or £22k with just 1100 miles on! Not sure what this says about the Leaf, but I'd have to say it's not looking like a good investment at £30k! Quite surprised at the huge drop so quickly, have been following the prices likewise. Its making i...

BVR Aug sep 14 Editorial

I read this months editorial with interest. I doubt that it will be possible to obtain supplies of components for production vehicles at competitive prices. Traditionally spare parts are sold at a premium to the total vehicle price. The manufacturers hopefully pay less than the total vehicle price o...

Re: Is a BMS actually necessary on LifePo4 cells.

Interesting about Hall effect devices. Where I used to work we sold a clamp on Hall device for 300 quid which was quite good beacause it had two Hall devices back to back thus eliminating the +/- non linearity problem. I am not sure if any of the cheap ones have this feature but one could use two fe...

Re: Who is looking to buy a new electric car this year?

In years gone by the mark of a top quality car was near silent running. Today I was driving my BMW diesel and just needed a short trip to the shops so took the leaf. The sudden air of quality from the near silent running was quite striking. On days like today the air-con dominates any other noise. J...
