Thanks Greg, That confirms my gut feeling on the contactor point. On the emergency stop side, I have a 126 which has cables operated by levers for choke and starter so I reckon either would do for an emergency stop. The clutch pedal would be more of an automatic reaction but if anybody else was driv...

Hi, I just tuned in to this thread. I haven't started putting any electrics together yet but I know I'm going with 72 volts and I have a coice of Altrax axe or Curtis controllers. I'd like to have a reliable failsafe in case of runaway/welded contactor situation. Would it be possible to have a mecha...

This is an intersting one. I've been a boat dweller for a couple of years in the recent past and used to read a lot of related publications. Boat and barge owners need to use as little electrical power as possible to stay within the power limits of their inverters. Therefore a washing mashine that t...

Hi, How about the question of whether it is more energy efficient to keep an old ICE car on the road or to build a new EV, bearing in mind the energy required to manufacture the steel components etc. ? Or, maybe, whether to build new or convert old vehicles? Just a couple of thoughts that sprang to ...

Just out of interest; what is the bike behind Mr Lynch's machine? Is it a converted Quasar, a one off or just a 'normal' Quasar?

If there were a neat, light 2 speed converterless auto ( needing no seperate clutch )

I'm not sure how you'd operate it (I think they use electric valve/hydraulic servo normally) but have you thought about an overdrive unit?.

Yes, I was just thinking the same but if they were arranged at about 90 degrees (one down in the subframe, in front of the shaft and one against the bulkhead, above the shaft) you could still use identical drive components.

Yes, I was just about to mention the BVS but circumstances demanded a swift goodbye.

I just thought that anyone who would bring up the subject of EVs in the second sentence of a conversation with a complete stranger might have been one of the regulars here.

Who did I meet in the Gower Heritage Centre car park?

Hi I met a chap in the aforementioned place on Sunday and the conversation quickly turned to EVs and hybrids but was cut short by the return of our respective families.

He probably wasn't a BVS member (what are the chances) but might read this forum, given his interest.

Just thought I'd ask.

I must apologise for starting this thread in the wrong area. I guess it should really have gone in "conversions" or "cars, vans and other road vehicles". I'd suggest a "general technical issues" area but I'd have to be in the "suggestions" area to do that. The...
