just another quick observation:- in resistance section you recommend wire size as 3.8mm thick.
That could be interpreted as diameter or mm squared - or am i just being picky?

seems good - can you do one for wind gennys now please? one possible error (if I'm not mistaken):- in the panel positioning & installation section, report suggests panel should be mounted facing south at an angle of 14° from the horizontal for 12 months use, and 22° from horizontal ...

UPS voltages
Thanks guys, may keep an eye out for one of the compaq units... That's sort of what I thought - as you say there's good reason they go for higher voltage battery packs at higher powers. The reason I want 24v is that that is my main battery voltage. I was wanting a larger inverter mostly 'cos it'll h...

UPS battery voltage
I see from floydsters post that I'm not the first to use an old UPS as a cheap truesine inverter. :? I'm currently using a powerware 750va UPS as it uses a 24v battery (which matches my main battery bank), but would like a more powerfull inverter. I see from nino500's reply to floydsters post that A...

wiring regs
The 17th edition wiring regs BS7671 say the following about the standard blue 16/32/64amp outdoor plugs/ sockets which are also used in marinas (like where I live on my boat in brighton):- They shall comply to BS EN 60309-1 above 63A and 60309-2 up to 63A. Protection to IP44, and require a 30mA RCD....

chlorides
Does sound like they have got some internal shorting going on though. I thought that a shorted cell would give me 10ish volts? They were fast chrged to about 13.5v then slow charged (~1 amp) for a good 24hrs. during the last 12 hrs the voltage didn't seem to go up at all (stayed at about 13.4v). Hi...

batteries
Aha! thanks for that - I suppose then that my old traction batteries may not be so good for static use? They'll suffer from stratification for e.g.? I suppose then that ex-UPS batteries would be most suited to standing around as that's what they're designed for. That only leaves the question, are my...

more lead acid questions
Hi Folks, I've got a few random questions on lead acids (apologies if they've been asked before but my searches didn't show up the answers): 1/ In a prevoius post, JonSpence grouped lead acids into the following categories: Starting, Leisure, Semi-traction. Traction, Deep cycle, I understand the dif...

Hi Chris, thanks for your reply. The motor's the question: what power do I need? ICE power rating is it's abs max output, so matching this would be overkill, but what power should I aim for for a vehicle of this size? (assuming the battery weight I specified previously) Then there's efficiency - is ...
