well its freezing and the heater on the berlingo is doing funny things much like Chris'. I have checked the pump works and delivers fuel by pulsing it with 12v. The heater starts fine and runs for a short while and then the fuel pump stops and the heater "flames out" (accompanied by a coup...

Sadly PVs below £4/watt retail is looking less likley at present due to production limitations and a silicon shortage. however with the much touted credit crunch etc. things may change. Fortunatly for me (I work in the renewables industry) demand for PV remains strong at the moment....less good i...

The DIY solar heating route is great for anyone who is up for it. I did a system on my old house in leeds. The difficulty is of course that many people lack the skills etc to do the work and have to buy into a commercial system. I would however agree with robbymax that many systems for solar thermal...

A simple answer first... A PV system installed in the UK will give approx. 800kWh per kW peak in other works a 1kW system will deliver 800 units of electricity a year...a bit more in cornwall and rather less in scotland. In terms of what is powered and what is not it of course depends on your domest...

Sadly (or fortunately depending on perspective!) we have very few modules damaged...and when they are it is usually "carrier disease" caught by throwing a glass object hard into the back of a van! :x but on a positive note prices are falling and the UK is finally starting to wake up to the...

I think that using battery based PV systems and 12v circuits is all well and good if you are either off the grid because it is not available (very few people in the UK) or if you have some idealistic drive to be "independent" but please remember that (as all ev people know) batteries are a...

Hi The main problem with PV as a charge source for batteries of any kind is that although the output voltage (open circuit) remains fairly constant above a certain light level it is temperature dependant (higher module temp lower voltage) and the current varies all over the shop in proportion (ish) ...

I have always thought that a detailed appraisal of the effects of widespread EV use on grid infrastructure, stability and capacity as well as looking at the possibility of grid interactive EVs (such as AC propulsion had in mind with the T Zero). I work with grid linked renewable energy systems and t...
