Re: Another EV bike :)

I will try and take some shots of the Valence battery pack. The valence packs are made into 12v analogue casings with part of an onboard BMS (It needs other parts) its made up of over 90 separate cells like yours, in four layers. But thats more self evident if I take some photsos. I opened up anothe...

Re: Another EV bike :)

This is interesing, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O8R0ig0J4wk only the texans would think of such an innovative way to test a battery pack. Not an approach I would have immediately though of! My own experience of these cells is that whilst this specific chemistry cells dont burn they do get seriou...

Re: Another EV bike :)

On EVTV JR was commenting about the Tesla having a small fuse connecting each cell to its common joining plate. That sounds like a brilliant idea, as the Valence Battery I blew up had around 25 cells welded to each of 4 plates (To get to the 12v +)and when one went short circuit it overheated and ba...

Re: blingo brake servo pump etc...?

They look quite good. Ideally you need to do the voltage checks immediately after the cut out occurs when the cells are at their lowest voltages. But 6.45v is quite good, so that would suggest that you have one or two weak cells inthe centre pack. Have you found my past threads about removing the pa...

Re: blingo brake servo pump etc...?

To check the separate battery pack voltages. 1. Take the cover off the control unit and measure the pack voltage on the middle pair of large cables. Note it down 2. Behind the 12v battery take out the Fuse and Barre (French word) on the set of contacts away from the cables (ie in the middle) measure...

Re: blingo brake servo pump etc...?

Now do another charge without doing lots of miles. And after 4 or 5 charges you will have it about as good as its going to get. When you then get the Eco light do the battery voltage checks and post them on here we can then give you some guidance as to which (if any) packs are poor. Glad you are up ...

Re: East Midlands Berlingo project

These are very different from Aircraft cells, and reconditioning isnt something that SAFT even suggest. The separators are the main failure with these and excess heat will help the plastic material to get holed. Yes the Maint charge is designed to get the cells hot, it only takes about 18hrs to comp...

Re: East Midlands Berlingo project

This is about trying to salvage a set of cells that are already failing with unknown condition and doubtful past maintenance. SAFT dont even consider that such conditions will be seen, so no this doesnt match with SAFT instructions, but neither does not bothering to do maint charges. A maint charge ...

Re: East Midlands Berlingo project

Doing maint and balance does a very similar thing, but the maint goes on for up to 72 hrs, maintaining the temp over the post charge period. Idont see how the cells can be damaged by the watering before the maint charge. Electrolyte and water is mixed through the system, if the cells do let a small ...

Re: blingo brake servo pump etc...?

Look back through the various posts, they will give you a lot of info. You need to chack each battery pack voltage, I explained how to dpo this a couple of times before. Once quite recently. The point is to get the average cell voltage, this then gives you an idea where the duff cell(s) is (are). As...
