Re: Another EV bike :)

I've seen some of that gear before, but it's still good to remember it's there

I was toying with the idea of making a buddy pack from the newer grey CALB cells, with higher 2C continuous current rating, but found enough 18650's in the end, so I made a smaller Headway buddy pack.

Re: Another EV bike :)

That's all very interesting Nigel :) I think that I, like a lot of others, are banking (or even hoping) that the price of 18650's come down a little bit more. Of course, while ever they stay in high demand the price will stay healthy until production volume easily overtakes demand. There's plenty of...

Re: Turnigy 150cc equivalent brushless outrunner motor

Interesting info. I would think 4 in parallel would be more fun ;)

Great write up too Paul

Re: Another EV bike :)

I pulled the battery pack from the bike and decided the long messy balancer/monitor wires needed tidying up (The ones terminated with green plugs....) BalWireMess.JPG after tidying.... BalWireDone.JPG I also added 10A fuses at the pack end of each balancer wire... BALWIREFIX.JPG The cell monitors ha...

Re: Another EV bike :)

Haven't had enough time to spend on this project recently but back on track now (Was having too much fun riding my other bike, FJ1100, while the warmer weather lasted :) ) I've had a few problems with the cell voltage monitors. Each one consists of a microcontroller, daisychained via their own seria...

Re: Another EV bike :)

I've acquired an ignition lock and barrel with key so have now got some security and the ability to switch all electronics off. I have avoided putting pack voltage through the ignition switch by introducing a 12V supply. At first i was putting a hefty 12V lead acid battery in circuit, but then reali...

Re: Another EV bike :)

I would do that if the shaft was parallel, but the motor shaft is already tapered. (Hence why I had to get the motor sprocket specially made) I fixed the slipping key problem just by fitting a new key and torquing the sprocket nut to a higher value than before. Things are going well at the moment an...

Re: Another EV bike :)

I hope to have some more pictures and video showing all components of the bike soon. Lately I've been playing with field weakening of the series would motor. My first test was with a short piece of very heavy (2 AWG ?) cable, but it produced too much arcing, although the speed increase was visible T...

Re: Elecscoot E4 scooter with LiFePO4 cells

Thanks for the update Mike, nice to know it's in good hands

One request - if you're so sure it is the sort of thing which gets home conversions banned can you not pass the info to trading standards for a couple of months, I haven't got mine finished yet !
